Project Officer (Solid and Liquid Waste Management)

LOCATION: Kanpur
PERIOD OF ENGAGEMENT: 6 months (immediate)
JOINING: Immediate joining desired

Qualification and Experience:

• A Master’s in Environmental Science/Environmental Engineering/ Social Science/Disaster Management/Rural development or related discipline from a renowned University/Institute
• Experience in Solid and Liquid waste management in rural areas
• Minimum of 1-3 years of demonstrated experience in planning and implementation of various projects related to solid waste management
• Experience in conducting assessments, using research methods, field surveys, outreach, or other field-based activities
• Local expertise in Uttar Pradesh
• Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation, preferably in a related field or sector
• Prior experience of working with government departments, non-profit organizations, or community programs would be highly valued
Desirable:
• Preferably familiar with Kanpur, UP
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders
• Experience in implementing the Mahatma Gandhi NREGS program will be considered an added advantage.
• Understanding of Nature-based Solutions for waste Management

Key requirements of the profile:
• Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations of India, particularly those relevant to Solid and Liquid Waste Management
• Supervise on-site activities, conduct FGD, KII for baseline and end-line assessment and coordination with key stakeholders in GP and waste management facilities on SLWM policy, practices, issues, challenges etc.
• Proficiency in surveys, stakeholder consultation and field-based data collection methods
• Strong command over populating survey data in relevant software (data entry), data cleaning
• Robust data analysis skillset (both qualitative and quantitative) would be preferred
• Proficiency in using mobile data collection tools, software applications, and technology platforms for data capture, entry, and management
• Proficiency in tools for data collection, analysis and reporting.
• Should be conversant with MS Office. Any other activities as required by specific project in future

The position is required to be stationed at Kanpur, UP. Two References from Past Experiences on Waste Management.

Program Assistant

LOCATION: Kanpur/Delhi NCR region

Joining: Immediate (1st week of January, 2025)

Qualification and Experience:
Masters in Disaster Management/ Climate Change Studies/Rural Development/Hydrology/Water Resources or relevant discipline from a renowned University/Institute
Experience minimum 1-3 Year of working experience in disaster management or any of the above-mentioned disciplines
Experience in Solid waste management would be helpful
Prior experience on MGNREGA planning and implementation, assessment of its works and assets. Also, prior experience working with government departments, non-profit organizations, or community programs would be highly valued
Key requirements of the profile:

Project Officer/ Project Manager (Risk Modelling)

LOCATION: Home-based with travel to study area as and when required.
Qualification and Experience:

  • M.Sc/ M.Tech /Ph.D. in Hydrology/ Hydraulics/ Water Science and Engineering/ Disaster Risk Management/ Climate Studies/ Water Resources/ Watershed Management/ Geology/ Earth Sciences/ Civil or Environmental Engineering or relevant discipline from a renowned University/ Institute
  • Having 2-5 years of full-time working experience in hydrological and hydrodynamic modelling, flood risk mapping and assessment, integrated river basin management and similar domain
  • Proficiency in using hydraulic and hydrological modelling software such as HEC-HMS, SWMM, or similar tools
  • Conversant with statistical and geo-spatial tools for undertaking hazard risk assessment
  • Prior working experience with government agencies at national and sub-national levels on relevant projects/ assignments will be advantageous

Core Competencies:

  • Data analysis skills for processing and interpreting hydrological and meteorological data
  • Ability to assess flood risks, including floodplain mapping and identification of vulnerable areas
  • Knowledge of flood hazard zoning and flood damage estimation
  • Ability to simulate river and floodplain hydraulics
  • Understanding of climate change impacts on flood risk and adaptation strategies
  • Understanding of risk assessment and simulation methodologies and frameworks
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software like ArcGIS or QGIS for data analysis
  • Familiarity with programming languages like Python, R, or MATLAB for scripting and automation tasks would be a plus.
  • Understanding of climate modelling and climate projection datasets
  • Understanding of disaster risk management

Other skills and competencies:

  • Ability and willingness to be flexible in demanding situations and handle multiple priorities
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for conveying complex technical information to diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, engineers, and community members
  • Being adaptable and open to incorporating new methodologies and data sources crucial for staying up to date in the field 
  • Ability to manage projects effectively, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating tasks within budget and timeline constraints

Overview of the expected role
SEEDS OF INNOVATION: This is an Innovation Mentorship Program which aims to nurture innovation and provide mentorship to innovative ideas in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction, SDGs and Climate Change Actions. The program will provide guidance to mature the innovative ideas by hand-holding and develop them for the prototype development. This program aims to utilize science and technology for community development. The intern is required to present the problem statement and propose and innovative idea. He/ she should be willing to work with an interdisciplinary team to mature the idea to prototype stage.
